Q&A: What is the best area to stay in San Diego which is easily accessible to the beach and gay scene?

Question by omakkad: What is the best area to stay in San Diego which is easily accessible to the beach and gay scene?
I am traveling to San Diego during the later part of December. I want to know the best areas to stay so that I can be close to most attractions as well as the gay scene (bars, clubs, etc).

I live there for 18 years. The best area for the LGBT scene is called Hillcrest. This is basically indesputible amongst San Diegans. Its not RIGHT next to the beach, so you’ll probably want to stay somewhere closer to the coast. I would go for somewhere like Oceanside, which is close and will be cheaper than staying somewhere like La Jolla or Cardiff-by-the-Sea.

Probably somewhere in or near Hillcrest. I’ll give a link down below for some hotels in the area and some info about the area.

    Hope this helps.

Hillcrest and North Park is the center of the gay community but it’s not near the beach.

You best bet is Mission Valley. There are dozens of moderately priced hotels in Hotel Circle. They are all close to Hillcrest, Sea World, Mission Beach, Old Town, Downtown, Balboa Park and the Zoo.

More upscale are the resort hotels on Mission Bay:

The Bahia is on the beach on the bay and is steps from the Pacific Ocean and Belmont Park Amusement Park

Paradise Point is on an island with a private beach

The Catamaran is in PB and is close to nightlife and restaurants and also steps from the ocean..

In La Jolla, the La Valencia Hotel overlooks The Cove.

If you’re on a budget, one of the best deals for an oceanfront hotel is the Blue Sea Lodge in Pacific Beach (PB).

BTW Oceanside is 40 miles north and is full of gangs. Ignore the advice to stay there.
